I WROTE A BOOK (the full story behind “Whole Girl”!)

So… I WROTE A BOOK!!! Whole Girl: Live Vibrantly, Love Your Entire Self, and Make Friends with Food is here to empower all different aspects of our lives, and help us embrace every part of who we are. It comes out February 2, 2021 with Sounds True, and if you pre-order it now, you can get it on launch day!

Here’s the whole story …

Whole Girl has 15 chapters, each focused on a different mood I want us to celebrate – think Be Bossy, Be Blue, Be Grateful, Be Mad!

Every chapter is filled with ideas and advice for navigating some of young women’s biggest issues, like social media comparison, individuality, uncertainty about our identity, and relationship with food. It also has practices for well-being like how to get enough sleep and exercising for abundance and self-love.

I also sat down and talked with a dozen badass women like Stephanie Beatriz, Bethany Hamilton, and Haley Lu Richardson who share their advice throughout the book!

Each chapter has a Mindful Movement, which means exercises that make our bodies and minds feel good — like yoga flows, tree-climbing, running intervals, and dancing.

And, of course, because I’m obsessed with food, the book is filled with 45 incredible Paleo, gluten-free treat recipes (almost all of which are brand-new!!!) and each one has an insanely yummy photograph.

My mom Kelly Radinsky took all the photos for this book (plus some in the intro by my bro Jackie), and it is filled with over 80 colorful photos. My cousin Sofia Szamosi illustrated a girl for each chapter, and it is such a treat to discover them throughout the book.

A lot of you have been curious about the book-writing process, so here’s the story…

I had been dreaming up this book for many, many years. Sophomore year of high school (three and a half years ago!) I started writing the book proposal. A proposal is basically a very extensive outline of the book — kind of like a small book in and of itself. Then, months later, I was introduced to my literary agent Leigh, and for the next 6 months we edited and honed my book proposal to send to publishers. During this time I had realized that I would need a lot more time during the day if I was going to write an actual full book! So after spring break of Sophomore year, I switched to Independent Study school, where I stayed for the rest of high school. This was incredible, and it gave me sooo much flexibility and time to write.

Here’s a photo I shared the week I switched to independent study. Back then I couldn’t tell you folks the reason for it because I had to keep the book secret!

I spent a ton of time interviewing the different women who I feature in the book, developing all of the mindful movements, and creating and testing all the 45 recipes!!!!

THAT WAS A WHIRLWIND of a year, especially because the book was due at same exact week as college applications and finals for senior year. But it was all worth it when, on Thanksgiving Weekend 2019, I turned in my manuscript: about 250 pages and 100 photos!! Here’s a photo I took minutes after submitting my manuscript that sums up that whirlwind and excitement:

Since the start of 2020, I’ve been working with the incredible Sounds True team to edit the book, add to it, do photo re-shoots, and help design the layout. I am so happy with how it turned out, and I just can’t wait for you to read it. Whole Girl will be such a perfect thing to buy yourself, a friend, a daughter, a cousin, a sibling, a parent—it has things for everyone to enjoy.

Pre-order the book now and it will arrive at your doorstep on launch day, February 2nd! Sending so much love to you all.
